Fashion Friday's: Why Black Friday Means Sexy

We all know black is slimming and flatters every body type. Every year we capture new trends and almost always have a new staple black piece, be it boots or a new jacket. There's so much you can do with black and I am certainly one to take advantage of all the beatuful pieces you see here that you can get anywhere and make it work for you.

My love for wearing colour will never fade, but I can always count on black to comfort me and make me feel sexy no matter what day of the week, month or year it is.

Happy Black Friday!

Tasty Thursday's: Chicken Soup from the Paleo Diet

Chicken soup is great for you when you're feeling under the weather. Hot soup is good for opening up congested noses and provides fluid which is important for fighting infection and dehydration. Some researchers believe chicken soup reduces inflammation associated with a cold which may relieve several symptoms.
I got this recipe from The Paleo Diet...

6 cups or water
1 whole chicken diced
2 cloves of garlic minced
1 yellow onion diced
1 bay leaf
1 tsp black pepper
6 fresh tomatoes diced
2 small zucchinis sliced thin
3 carrots diced

In a large pot combine water, chicken, garlic, onion, bay leaf and pepper. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat. Cover and simmer for about two hours or until chicken is tender.

Remove bay leaf and discard. Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and cover. Simmer for about 20 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Serves six.

Enjoy!

What's Hot Wednesday: Women Supporting Men with Prostate Cancer

Back in the beginning of November, us ladies here at What's Fabulous started our own campaign - Pink Movember and with that we have been receiving many pictures and have been using many creative outlets to express our feelings regarding Prostate Cancer. Cancer has affected everyone here at Fabulous PR, in some way. Stephanie, wrote out a poem commemorating how prostate cancer affects a child. As well, we have a guest post from Melissa McKenzie.

I would awaken to the smell of coffee

He needed his morning fix to get through the day
That smell...that taste its not for me
“Morning dad”, I would say

“Good Morning love, start dinner without me tonight I'll be home late”
No questions asked, just a smile and a hug
What's he doing, where's he going, maybe just a date
Oops he forgot his favourite mug!

Later that night he told me to have a seat
I could tell something was wrong.. from the look in his eyes
He told me how he loved me so, and said “you are so sweet...”
(deep breath) I've been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, I might not live too long

Tears rolled down my cheeks as I realized
Realized what this meant
As days turned into weeks a week quickly became a month

We spent our time in the hospital
I need to go somewhere I need to vent
I turned to God and asked him why? Why him – I had to be blunt
Was my daddy ready for this life time battle?

He was losing energy
How much more can he take
the doctor said “you might want to prepare your eulogy”

Late that night he passed – it was a beautiful funeral by the lake
I fill his cup to the top
And have a drink for dad
I keep imagining him here, I really need to stop
This is all to much for me, I am completely sad

--- Stephanie

I hate the taste of coffee
The liquid makes me sick
The flavour is so potent
The consistency, too thick

Yet every single morning
I make myself a cup
I grab the Folgers, throw it in and fill the glass jar up

I sit down at the table
On the old chair to the right
I swirl the liquid round and round
And hold his mug real tight

I inhale very deeply
And then I take a sip

I do this as quick as I can
I often burn my lip

I do this every morning
It’s what I need to do
It helps me feel as if he’s here

It’s how I make it through

My father loved his coffee
He drank it everyday
He’d sit on the old chair to the right
And swear he was okay

Prostate cancer killed my father
It took my father’s life
He left behind a bunch of friends
A daughter and a wife

So I sit here swirling coffee
Compliant with my fate
And I burn my lip on coffee
The coffee that I hate

---Melissa McKenzie

Have a fabulous day, and let's show our support to these men battling Prostate Cancer.
Take a picture of yourself (ladies) wearing a pink mustache, and send it over to us either by E-mail or Post It On The What's Fabulous Facebook Page or Tweet It ...  there are so many ways to get these mustaches in.

Muscle Mondays: Stripping to Keep Fit

Hey Ladies and Gents,
Strip teasing is a great way to lose weight. No you do not need to take your clothes off, and no you do not need a partner for this.

Strip teasing is essenstially a dancing class, with a lot of movement. I was amazed when I took one of the classes a couple of weeks ago. It really is fun and makes you burn up a sweat. Many celebrites such as Jennifer Aniston and Teri Hatcher incorporate strip teasing into their workout because it really is a full body workout. You can do cardio and resistance training all in one, therefore, allowing your body to transform that much quicklier.

Strip teasing makes you sweat and move your body to great tunes- like Rihanna, Beyonce and anything happy and sexy at the same time.

Although some women might find it taboo, personally, I find a bit of female empowerment.
Now that strip teasing is one of the hottest ways to get in a workout, many locations in Toronto are offering this. Check out these great strip teasing and dancing studios to try this out in Toronto - Boom Chika Boom,
Aradia Fitness, Zumba Fitness, and of course (where I took my class with my friend Lukie) Flirty Girl Fitness. Or, if you want to go the cheaper route you can also check out Youtube for tutorials or purchase Carmen Electra's Strip Teasing Video Workouts (I have those too!!!)

The ladies and I here at What's Fabulous love to try new and different workouts, so tell us, what's your favourite and we'll try it out.!!!!

Have a great day and stay sexy,

Lanvin Loves H & M

H&M will be launching their next designer collaboration with Lanvin. Lanvin is one of the influential brands of the 21st century.

In around 200 H&M stores worldwide, the Lanvin line for H&M will go on sale November 23, 2010 but in Toronto it will come out tomorrow morning at 08:00am. The women's collection is designed by Lanvin’s artistic director Alber Elbaz and the menswear collection is designed by Lucas Ossendrijver.

“H&M approached us to collaborate, and see if we could translate the dream we created at Lanvin to a wider audience, not just a dress for less. I have said in the past that I would never do a mass-market collection, but what intrigued me was the idea of H&M going luxury rather than Lanvin going public. This has been an exceptional exercise, where two companies at opposite poles can work together because we share the same philosophy of bringing joy and beauty to men and women around the world.” Alber Elbaz, artistic director of Lanvin.

“We are thrilled about Lanvin’s collection for H&M, it is such an exciting moment. Lanvin will bring to H&M a luxurious French tradition that is also modern and playful. It is very much a Lanvin collection, using their cut and tailoring, with lots of focus on form and details for both women and men. The launch in November is going to be full of wonderful surprises.” Margareta van den Bosch, creative advisor at H&M.

Are you thrilled about Lanvin's collection with H&M?? I am, here are some of my favourites...

Love it

I really like these colours

What’s Hot Wednesdays: Let Your Fingers Do The Talking, With The Three Hottest Polishes

Hi again Fabulous readers!
As the leaves have changed colours to beautiful colours like chestnut, why not our nail polish?! It’s a mixture of chestnut brown with red for flare. This is one of my favourite colours for autumn; it’s a bold colour that works well for coffee with a friend or a late night dark with him.

Midnight blue is the new nail polish for fall 2010. It’s not too dark and not to bright, so you won’t mistake this blue for a black. While I wait for my nails to dry I need to find the perfect outfit that will work well for a late night out. Whether you’re attending a gala dinner or dancing with friends, people will notice your savvy style.

It seems like every season it’s okay to wear pink. Well this fall you’ll look pretty in pink no matter what shade you choose. Perfect for date night, pink polish offers a hint of flirty and amplifies your confidence.

Now those are some hot colours,

Stephanie B

Tuning Tuesdays: I can’t stop singing, “Whip my hair, whip my hair...”

My song choice of the day is “Whip My Hair” by Willow Smith. 9 year-old daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith has star power all over her. Her music debut has people young and old buzzing about it. Her video “Whip Your Hair” was released in late October sending a message of empowerment and fun! This catchy song is full of energy; I catch myself signing this song all the time. Wow, I can’t wait for her next song! What’s your song choice of the day?

Have a Fabulous Day,

Muscle Mondays: How Yoga Helps in More Ways than One

Hey Fabulous Readers!

Yoga has been a popular form of exercise for years. Regular yoga practice can build core strength, stamina, emotional satisfaction, muscle endurance and flexibility. I have committed to have yoga in my workout routine in the last year because of all the benefits it has offered me. Yoga is definitely not just for women. There are plenty of men I know that enjoy yoga, especially hot yoga. I decided to try hot yoga this summer when a friend invited me to attend one of the classes with her. Boy was it hot and challenging compared to regular yoga I was used to. After a few classes I was noticing I had better posture, I could run longer on the treadmill and I was enjoying everything having a more positive outlook on life.

Yoga for Health

It’s unbelievable how many health benefits you can gain from doing yoga. The deep breathing that is involved in yoga has been proven to lower blood pressure. The benefits can help people with heart disease and stroke.

Yoga for Core Strength and Posture

Most yoga poses and exercises build core strength, and a stronger core means better awareness of posture and movement of your body. It's not just about being aware. A strong core will help you sit and walk straighter and taller. Yoga helps with good posture, which prevents back pain.

Yoga for Emotional Benefits

It’s hard not to relax during yoga. The breathing and meditation that is involved brings a feeling of peace and helps you let go of daily stress and anxiety. You may not know this, but when you are relaxed while doing yoga your body is able to decrease the hormones that produce stress, called catecholamines. Daily practice in yoga will help your everyday activities seem less stressful.

Yoga for Muscle Flexibility

If you don’t think your flexible enough, trust me yoga helps. I know athletes that do yoga to help skate, jump and run better. That’s because the flexibility from yoga improves flexibility in your muscles, tendons and ligaments.

After doing yoga you will look and feel like a strong warrior ready to face anything!

Enjoy your workout today!

Fashion Friday's: Bigger is Better

Hello Fabulous Readers,

Bigger is better this year whether it's a ring or a scarf. Exaggerating what you wear makes a fabulous fashion statement others will want to replicate once they see your fashion sense and fabulousity.

Try a big cardigan especially when the weather is cold. Having a couple in different colours is fun and you can layer them with tanks, tees and coats.

Big jewelry makes a statement that says "I'm fabulous!" since it looks so glam and chic and also can be taken down a notch when worn with jeans and flat shoes.

Bigger, better, beautiful!

Have fun shopping :)

Lest We Forget- Rememberance Day

When I was younger, I had to memorize "In Flander's Fields" for a school play. Since that moment every year I am completely amazed that I still remember it. This is not "typical Fabulous fashion" but the men and women who fought for our country are Fabulous and they deserve more then a blog post about them, but for now, I cannot give more then just a space on our vitual blogsphere. I want to thank all these brave men and women for fighting for everyone. They gave us life, they gave us rights- now it is up to us to use these rights for the good.

So please take a moment of silence tonight- wherever you are, to pray and give thanks.

Tasty Thursday's- Spicy Tortilla Soup

Hey Fabulous Readers!!!
I'm all about the quick and easy recipes- as I love to cook but do not want to be a slave to the kitchen. This week’s recipe is one of the most simplest and delicious entrees. I love soup in the winter and really love to try different things. So late last night (2am) I thought lets make it spicy. This is what I came up with. Yes I have all these ingredients at home. Grandma and I love to cook.

Ingredients
• 1 small onion, diced into little pieces
• 2 cloves garlic, minced
• 1 red pepper, chopped into little pieces
• 2 jalapenos, chopped into little pieces
• 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
• 4 cups of chicken stock
• 1 16 oz. can of diced tomatoes
• 2 cups of shredded chicken breast
• 1 diced squash
• 4 carrots, chopped into little pieces
• 1 can of corn (drained)
• 1 can of black beans

Toppings
• 1 cup of cheese (cheddar usually works well- don’t want to burn your tongue with even more spice)
• 1 ripe avocado
• Dollop of sour cream
So before you start anything, wash all utensils, pots, and your hands. Make sure you have enough utensils to use as well- or clean in between.
Let me just say... THIS IS DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!

In a soup pot, fry the onion, the garlic, jalapenos, and the peppers in a bit of oil until they are all soft. Once soft, add oregano, tomatoes, chicken, squash, carrots, corn, and black beans. Include the chicken stock and allow all the flavors to meld and simmer. This will take about half an hour. When everything is all ready, put a serving into a bowl and add crushed tortilla chips, the cheese, half of the avocado and a scoop of the sour cream. You can serve with a lime wedge and add some cilantro if you would like.

*** please note that you can leave the chicken out and grab vegetable stock instead to make a vegetarian version. Just make sure to add more vegetables.

SOOOOOO delicious!!!

Stay Fabulous!!!
